Ingredients
- 3/4 cup chole (soaked overnight in 3 1/2 to 4 cups of water)
- 1 large onion
- 2 medium tomatoes
- 5-6 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp jeera
- 1 1/2 tsp salt (for the chole) + 1/4 tsp salt (for the gravy)
- 1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1 1/2 tsp chole masala
Procedure
- Add the soaked chole along with the water to a cooker and add salt
- Put the cooker on high until first whistle and then put it on sim for a total of 7-8 whistles
- Meanwhile, chop the onions into fine pieces and cut the tomatoes and mash them into a paste
- In a cooking pan, add oil and jeera
- Add the onions and wait for them to turn light brown and add turmeric
- Mix it well and add the tomato paste and mix again
- Put a lid on this pan and stir occasionally
- Once a gravy-type consistency is obtained, add the salt, chilli powder and chole masala and mix
- Put the lid back on for another 5 mins
- Now add the chole, mix it well and put the lid on and let it cook for another 5 mins
